The triumphant season of  Breton football

 

On the 25th of april  2009, the final of the "Coupe de la Ligue" started in the stadium ‘Stade de France’ in Paris. A second division (ligue 2)Breton club, Vannes Olympic Club (Vannes OC) confronted the first division (ligue1) club, "Girondins de Bordeaux". It is the second time that a second division club reached  a final in all of the "Coupe de la Ligue" history. Despite the defeat of the "Vannais", it was a good achievement .

Few days later, another Breton club of league 2 created a more beautiful .

On may the 9th, again in the Stade de France, 2 Breton clubs confronted each other for the French Cup (Coupe de  France): the second division club, l'En Avant Guinguamp and the premier division club, Stade Rennais. Stade de France was invaded with red and black colors of the two clubs and Breton flags. 80 056 spectators, a record turn-out for a French cup final, the match  took place in a festive atmosphere. For this occasion,  the sports newspaper "l'Equipe" had changed its front page into the Breton language, as well as it’s title, Ar Skipailh. Finally, it was the En Avant Guingamp club which won the cup. It was the 1st time for 50 years that a second division club won the French Cup. More importantly, it is a victory for Brittany.
